In the CBD the work is almost entirely apartments: compact kitchens, often with the laundry in a cupboard and the living area doing double duty. The kitchens are usually structurally fine and visually dated, and the job is about making a small space work harder rather than making it bigger.
Because the buildings are strata, the approval process matters as much as the design. Work hours, lift bookings, delivery windows and noise restrictions are set by the building, not by us.
What Can Be Changed
The building sets the limits. Moving plumbing in an apartment is usually possible but rarely cheap, and moving a wall is often not possible at all.
- Doors, panels and benches can usually be replaced without approval
- Sink and cooktop positions can sometimes move, depending on the stack
- Rangehoods must vent or recirculate within the building rules
- Flooring may need acoustic underlay to satisfy the strata by-laws
Logistics in a Tower
Everything arrives through a loading dock and a lift, and both are booked. That means cabinets are packed to fit the lift, deliveries are scheduled to the minute, and waste leaves the same way it came in. It is the least glamorous part of the job and the part that most often goes wrong.
If the building requires a lift booking and a protection order, tell us at quoting. It adds a day and it is not optional.

Do I need approval for an apartment kitchen?
The building usually requires approval for anything beyond cosmetic replacement, and some works need council approval as well. We check the strata rules before the design is finalised.
Can the sink or cooktop be moved?
Sometimes, depending on where the services stack runs. Moving within the same wall is usually possible; moving across the apartment is usually not worth the cost.
How long does an apartment install take?
Shorter than a house, but the lift bookings and work hours stretch it out. Plan on a few weeks once the cabinets arrive, with the building setting the daily window.
