Kitchen Renovation
Full replacement or reconfiguration in Applecross homes, including opening the kitchen to the living area where the structure allows it.
Applecross is not one housing market. There are the original mid-century houses that have never been touched, the ones that were extended in the 1990s and now have a kitchen that no longer matches the rest of the house, and the newer builds on subdivided blocks where the kitchen is simply dated rather than broken.
Each one needs a different conversation. An untouched house usually needs everything at once. An extended house often needs the kitchen brought up to the standard of the extension. A newer build is usually about finishes, storage and layout rather than structure.
In the older houses here the kitchen is typically closed off from the living area, with a doorway or a half wall doing the separating. Opening that up is the single most common request, and it is also the one that most affects cost, because it usually involves a beam and a building permit through the City of Melville.
Most Applecross jobs are done with the family still living there. That is workable, but it needs to be planned rather than discovered. We set up a temporary bench and sink arrangement where possible, keep the dust contained to the work area, and sequence the trades so the kitchen is not unusable for longer than it has to be.
If the house is going to be empty during the work, tell us at quoting stage — it changes the order we can do things in and usually shortens the program.

New cabinetry in the existing footprint, which is often the sensible option when the layout already works and the budget is better spent on the bench and finish.
Installation of supplied or flat-pack cabinets, levelled and finished, for owners managing part of the job themselves.
Hybrid planks through kitchen and living areas, with the direction and thresholds worked out before the first board goes down.
We also work in the suburbs around Applecross:
Send the address or nearest cross street, a few photos of the kitchen as it is now, and a rough idea of what you want to change. If the wall to the living area is coming out, say so early — it changes what we need to check on the first visit.
